I’ve been reading Dwell since before I was in architecture school, way back in 2001, so it was a major shock when they approached me to shoot a story for them. Even more so because I hadn’t reached out to them at all at that point; I’d never even done an editorial shoot before!
Naturally, I freaked out.
On the day of the shoot I roll up to the house with a 5D, Contax 645, Mamiya 7, a tripod, like 30 rolls of film, and all of the lenses, sweating balls. But then I walk in, kick my shoes off, load up the first roll, look at the light, and proceed to have the most relaxed, zen shoot ever. I only needed one camera, I only shot film, no tripod, no digital backup, and it was amazing.
Again, shout out to Julia and Anna over at Dwell for being two of the best damn PEs out there, and seeing potential in me that I didn’t even see in myself. Also, special thanks to Devendra Banhart for providing the perfect soundtrack to that magical day :)

Seeing my brother’s name in print never gets old. Can’t wait to go out and buy a copy!
